Darkest Hour裏，邱吉爾是一個可愛可親的老頭。他脾氣大但肯聽人勸告，他在床上吃早餐聽電話，洗澡如廁也在辦公。他自認不知民間疾苦，不曉煮蛋、不懂排隊等巴士、也未擠過地鐵。但導演幫他，證明他不是政棍不是野心家──路人甲乙丙每個都有清晰面貌，慢鏡見這個忙着上班那個專心倒垃圾。政壇暗湧處處，邱吉爾地位旦夕不保時，他轉向人民──他特意坐地鐵，一一聆聽人民心聲，一一記下他們的名字。他知道民眾鬥志高昂，他於是在國會中更響亮了！他除了烏龍百出之外，還把「V」字手勢倒轉而出洋相（不知是否真是史實？）他龍鍾得像爺爺般親切。人性的弱點他都有──會失眠、會擔心、會軟弱、會發脾氣──於是更像我們凡人，而不是高高在上。I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat。忠肝義膽，浩然正氣。排句最厲害莫如這段歷史留名：We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and on the streets, we shall fight in the hills, we shall never surrender.猶如萬馬千軍，金鼓齊鳴，激勵人心。電影最後引用了邱吉爾名句：「Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.」老實說，是大勇還是大錯，當看成敗後果。不過，鬥心，的確可以創造奇蹟，扭轉乾坤！（下）2018年3月21日
