Share the Mission: Philanthropy and Engagement for Universities” In: AI-Youbi, A.O., Zahed, A.H.M., Atalar, A. (eds) International Experience in Developing the Financial Resources of Universities. Springer, Cham. 2021

“There is a new by-law for universities here in Saudi Arabia, in which the public universities will seek financial resources other than the budget received from the Ministry of Education. (March, 2020)”

Universities represent hope and change, aspiration and inspiration. Apart from the core missions of teaching, research, and innovation, universities nurture leaders, tackle grand challenges, promote shared goals and values, and are fundamental to the culture and spirit of a place. Educational philanthropy ensures growth of the university and shapes its community’s social, economic, and technological development. This chapter explores the principles, ideas and methodologies as universities in Asia engage their community and stakeholders.  (Introduction, chapter by Bernadette Tsui)

“Growing with Hong Kong – The University and its Graduates, The first 90 Years”, Hong Kong University Press, Hong Kong, 352 pp. (2002)

As Secretary to the HKU 90th Anniversary Celebrations, Bernadette was responsible for producing this impact study, a book project led by a Steering Committee of alumni and produced by the Development & Alumni Affairs Office.  The study chronicles the 90 years wherein the University of Hong Kong and its graduates were intimately engaged in the historical and social developments of the world city of Hong Kong.  The numerous episodes, portrayals and photographic records vividly delineate Hong Kong’s trials and jubilations.  The monograph analyses the graduates’ contributions, since the university’s foundation in 1911, in social, economic, political, infrastructure, cultural and educational arenas. It documents how the university and its graduates created impact in various critical junctures and were closely intertwined with Hong Kong’s history, past and future, illuminating the core values that the academia hold so dear, and throwing light on tertiary education, its role and its mission.
